Our Orchard

The Orchard is not just a specific place on the farm. Rather, it is a term for all the patches and groups of woody perennials that we have scattered about the farm, from the venerable old cherries by the driveway; to the pears and berries in the “old orchard;” to the fruit trees we planted on the side yard; to the food hedge at the east end of the pasture.

They have in common the intentional inclusion of tree species that are perennial, food bearing, and do not require as much maintenance as, say, a garden of annual vegetables.
