There shouldn’t be…

This many banana slugs this large on the farm in August.

There shouldn’t be this much cordial and liqueur aging in the kitchen fridge at one time.

It had to be moved to the shop to continue aging, out of the way of our daily food.

There shouldn’t be a band-aid case from the Pierce Co Fair in the lint trap of the drier.

That has to be taken apart and cleaned out at 9:30 at night, so laundry can be dried. Turns out we have accumulated some sand in there over the years.

There also shouldn’t be…

A hole in the living room wall.

Seppi was trying a trick. A flying front trick.

He was quick to throw his sister under the bus: “But Ellie (this sister that you put here with me) taught me that trick!”

Ellie: “I specifically told you to do it outside!”

Seppi: “I expected the wall to be strong!”

So on Saturday the 22nd of August, when Mommy and the girls went with Deedee and Papa to Naches to pick peaches (shout out to Thompson Family farm, where Papa’s family have been picking peaches for the last 100 years.

No, literally. 100 years.) Seppi had to stay home and help Daddy start on fixing the wall.

Getting the paint colors matched at Home Depot. This was before we knew they had a scanning machine that automatically matches colors for you. We also had to by some dry wall to make the patch, but it turns out that someone walled the family room with 3/8 inch sheet rock. (How’s that for another thing that shouldn’t be!) and Home Depot didn’t have any in stock. So we went with plan B.

First step was trimming a square hole, stud to stud.

Then measuring and marking the patch to fit.

Seppi helped, mainly with the vacuuming. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.

This was our solution to the thickness problem. We cut a 1/8th inch rabbet into the sides of the patch, which will recess it on the studs, deep enough to make the patch flush with the wall. Since unbound drywall is inherently week, this rabbet had to be re-inforced with fiberglass tape.

The end result looks,

Acceptable.

Since then we have gotten the texture sprayed on, but still haven’t gotten around to painting it. Maybe Sunday or Monday.

And Seppi had a horrible time going to the hardware store with Daddy and using tools and talking with auntie on the phone, and chattering all day without being interrupted by a sister even once. A horrible day, and serve him right.

Since we had some time before leaving for Lord’s day, we also braided our Garlic,

Purple Italian and Sicilian soft neck, and Red Chesnok hard neck. We also braided and hung the onions Dude grew for us.
