homeschool, Our Garden

Back to School, sort of.

Monday, August 17th. Dear Diary…

The day after fair is hard.

Breakfast was leftovers. Leftover blackberry/rhubarb crumble. Leftover vanilla pudding. You know.

Leftovers.

After breakfast, Dad took us all to the farm and we had to pick beans and elderberries.

(we’ve already written about the elderberries).

This is a picture of me picking beans. Seppi is just walking.

Evie is picking raspberries. She thinks it is taking a long time because she wants to go on her Shaw island trip, to meet the sisters of something.

(Evie: The Religious Sisters of Mercy and the Benedictine Sisters at Our Lady of the Rock Convent).

(Mommy: Yes, she was filled with excitement and anticipation).

This is me again. I am really bored. I had to snip four entire baskets of beans. And do Latin.

After we dropped Evie off at church for her field trip/retreat, we went back to the farm to do chores and check on the garden. This is a squash.

This is a squash tunnel. They will need to be harvested soon.

Here I am again. I got the sheep to eat some willow out of my hand while I put my hand on their head. Willow is their favorite food.

The reason I was doing this is because Evie wants to enter sheep in fair next year. They like willow, so feeding them willow is a good way to make them like you.

The cows didn’t come for feeding time because they were hiding in the shade and couldn’t be bothered to walk the hundred yards or so in the sun.

I have been reading Greek books (Daddy’s note: Not in actual Greek) and I was striking a pose of a statue that almost strangled a guy in the book I am reading.

The statue was pouring out water.

Like I am pouring out beans.

Daddy littered the table with school schedule stuff.

These are all the beans Mommy canned after she got home from work.

I thought it was a pretty good day, judging by the fact that Seppi and me (Daddy’s edit: “Seppi and I”) only got into about a thousand fights.

See you tomorrow.

Love Ellie.
