The Summer harvest is just beginning! On Monday we did another picking of raspberries (pretty slim pickings, at this point) and we did our first picking of beans. Ellie bet Uncle that he would not find any beans on the west side of the beans. She bet him one scone for each bean that he found.
He found more than 40 beans.
But he said he would settle for single batch of scones.

We checked on our crab apples. Still not fully ripe yet, but such a beautiful shade of purple.

Our hubbard squash are getting enormous.

We discovered that there was a miscommunication when we were planting out the cabbage. Some of the green cabbage varieties got seeded into the red cabbage pots. Along with the red cabbage. So we tried to sort them out by cutting half the seedlings out of the overfull pot, and transplanting them into the empty pots. We may have killed half our cabbages. We will know in a few days.

Then we dug potatoes for supper, and went home.

See? Tatos!

Evie does not appreciate being interrupted in the middle of her book of random facts.

When we got home we picked all the “William’s Pride” apples from our dwarf tree in the back yard. These have a thick skin, a green and purple russeted color, and a lovely sweet/tart appley flavor.

Evie helped get them canned, while Ellie made good on her bet.

One batch of Redwall Abbey scones…

coming right up.

They are such a simple and delicious treat, especially with butter or jelly.
The girls got the green beans snipped.

Maximum efficiency right here. These kids are locked on task. 100%.

These will sit in the refrigerator so Mommy can pressure can them when she gets home from work.

Meanwhile, the apples have to be sliced, cored, and doused with lemon juice. Some of them we pealed and some we didn’t.

Then covered with syrup, and water bathed.

And they all sealed! Yay!

Best crew ever!
