Our Pigs

A Day without Mommy

Monday morning Seppi got up and asked “Daddy, What kind of day is this? Do we get to eat meat today?” (We do the traditional meatless Fridays in our house, and Seppi hates days without meat.) Upon being reassured that it was in fact a Monday, and therefore meat was on the menu he asked, “Is it a day without Mommy.”

Upon hearing that it was a Monday, and therefore Mommy was at work, he uttered an anguished cry like a wounded animal and flung himself upon the couch, closing his eyes to the cruel, cruel world.

What’s a guy supposed to do?

He got over it as soon as he had some breakfast, though. Amazing what a little blood sugar will do.

I asked him if he needed help getting the laundry into the washer.

He didn’t even answer. He just kept working.

That kind of grit will serve him well in life.

Monday is rarely a productive day at the farm. There is too much else to be done, such as errands, school, cooking, laundry, etc. However, we managed to get out there by about 10-o-clock.

Found this little guy playing in the far end of the south pasture. I walked down to ask him if he knew what had happened to our ducks, but he bolted under the fence and was gone.

Gertrude is feeling much better now. She galloped up to get some food and get her back scratched. She has also started climbing into her bathtub. She doesn’t really soak in it, so much as she gets into it, splashes the water out to make mud, and then gets out and lies down in her favorite mud puddle.

Unfortunately this has started knocking the float valve out of place, which makes it so the water will just keep running, and running, and running. Like Forrest Gump, only way more expensive.

So we added a cage to protect the float valve.

Now to do something about the mosquito larvae in the tank. What’s funny is that the nearby tanks have no mosquito larvae. One of them has (or had) goldfish in it, so that is probably why it is clear. The other is the former duck water. Both are in direct sunlight, while Gertrude’s pool is shaded, and that is probably one of the biggest differences. We need to get this cleaned out because we definitely don’t need that many mosquitoes around.
