Garden Catch-Up
It's a busy time of year for the garden. Also a tricky one. Western Washington has a tendency to draw spring out, somewhat unnecessarily, as it seems to us who grew up elsewhere. In Upstate NY, spring is a couple of weeks of mud, followed by summer. Average air temps and soil temps go up… Continue reading Garden Catch-Up
Spring is Springing!
Hazel bush. Elderberry. Goumi berry. Black berry. Josta berry. Willow. Look at that color! Time to start setting up fences!

Parsnip seeds and carrot seeds are too small to be worth planting individually using the form, so we just scatter them thinly. Or not… Continue reading Gardening Buddies
Saturday Morning Work
Saturday was a busy day, with auto-repair, confessions, and a wedding. But that's no reason not to get in a couple hours of work. Another pathway, another garden bed. We are running out of time, as usual. After Tuesday we won't be able to get back to the garden for almost two weeks.
You’re a mean one, Mr. Goose.
The geese are in full on nesting mode right now. The gander has gotten so aggressive he had to be fenced off from the ducks behind the electric netting. He'll even attack a human, unless you smack his bill with a stick. This is why. Mrs. Goose is laying eggs! It's make or break time… Continue reading You’re a mean one, Mr. Goose.
