Seppi and Daddy bought a new workbench!
Some assembly required.
Before you can assemble, you must disassemble. Cutting the legs using a miter saw. It gives a nice straight cut, but is probably a little overkill for this. A faster, rougher saw would work well enough.
Even for these mortices, Grandpa Carl’s old rip saw works just fine.
This is a consequence of working with cheap, low-grade lumber. It is full of knots. Chopping a mortice through it is rough, no matter how many relief cuts you put in it.
This one chopped out much more easily.
Winnie helped chop out the dovetail for the stringer.
And cut the half-lap into it.
But the saw is really too heavy for her, so Daddy had to finish the rest of them.
All was going well until it came time to dry fit the parts.
Apparently “Almost” square isn’t good enough. When I tapped it in, it split the side right off the mortise.
So this trellis assembly is not ready yet. Not sure how I’m going to fix that one.
