People have lots of different reasons for homesteading and homeschooling. For us, homeschooling was thrust upon us by COVID whether we would or no, it just turned out to be a serendipitous event. We continue it now because we see the results, compared to other non-homeschooled kids; but even more so, for moments like this.… Continue reading Food: Pork Chops, Baby ‘Tatoes, Green Beans and Blackberry Rhubarb Crumble.

Sunday and Monday Fun
Mommy and Evie were fully engaged in Swiss Kids Kamp. I wish I had some pictures of it, but I wasn't there and they were both pretty busy the whole time. Swiss Kids Kamp is an annual kids camp held at the Swiss Sportsman's Club in Bonney Lake, where kids can stay for a week… Continue reading Sunday and Monday Fun
Back in the Garden
Daddy got off orders for National Guard last Saturday. Winnie was pretty much glued to him the whole day. The garden has been growing like crazy for the last two weeks. The beans that were so slow to start have been coming in buckets. Mommy picked ten quarts worth last week. Daddy and Winnie picked… Continue reading Back in the Garden

More Beans
Green (and purple) beans are one of those gifts that just keep on giving. And giving... And giving. I told Seppi we needed to pick beans, and he literally sprinted to the garden with excitement. "Daddy! Let's have a pick race!" Five minutes later: "Daddy, I'm going to let you win." All the little kids… Continue reading More Beans
Busy nights
Harvest time is always busy on the farm. Plants mature, fruit and veggies are ready when they are reay with little to no concern for what we have going on in our non-gardening lives. Tuesday was a good example of that. Beans and blackberries are both coming in hardcore, but this is also the weekend… Continue reading Busy nights
Green (and Purple) Beans!
It's that time of the year! Beans are coming in. We had our first picking on Tuesday. Nasturtiums, and a hummingbird. Six quarts, first haul of the year. (The purple ones turn green when they get pressure canned.)
Would you like a can of ‘lini?
Well folks, I am pleased to announce that for the first time ever we have a very respectable row of cannellini beans. Those are the short beans, the tall ones are blue lakes, and French runner beans. And the cannellini are loaded! We have to wait until the plants are completely dried out and desiccated,… Continue reading Would you like a can of ‘lini?
