If only more people understood. If only I understood. This is what Traherne was on about. I complain about not having time to get into the garden as much as I would like, and sure, there are a lot of tasks that ought to be done, for productivity and for beauty, but honestly... It still… Continue reading God Provides

Catch up post
This has been a very busy week and a lot has gone on, so buckle up. It's time for a catch-up post. Literally. Mommy took Evie and Ellie to the fair last Wednesday. No, the other last Wednesday, the 6th of August. That's how far behind we are. They immediately started winning prizes. Ellie got… Continue reading Catch up post
Duck Confit and Prosciutto
One of the best things about butchering day... The big mess of fried heart the next day. In this case fried in butter with onion, pepper and garlic. Evie and Winnie are both fans of it. Seppi is not. Ellie thinks that it is about the worst thing that ever happened. The daikon radishes bolted… Continue reading Duck Confit and Prosciutto
Garden and Orchard work
Last Tuesday, we managed to get into the garden a little bit during the day. Winnie and Daddy put twine on the bean trellis. They beans are starting to come in quite nicely, but we actually ran out of twine with two trellises left to go. We have more twine now, but haven't gotten to… Continue reading Garden and Orchard work
Tomato troubles
Let's see how the tomatoes are doing in their little house. Look at this... Happy little 'mater plant in there. Look at him just growing away. But that was before we sowed sunflower seeds. Two days later... All the tomatoes are looking great except the two closest to the water riser. Those have been trampled… Continue reading Tomato troubles
Hoop Bender
This week has been too busy, we have only had a grand total of two hours to work on farm projects all week. One of those hours was spent gathering information. In the garden beds, in direct sunlight in the middle of the day, soil temps are about 50 degrees. Under the cold frame the… Continue reading Hoop Bender
Saturday Morning Work
Saturday was a busy day, with auto-repair, confessions, and a wedding. But that's no reason not to get in a couple hours of work. Another pathway, another garden bed. We are running out of time, as usual. After Tuesday we won't be able to get back to the garden for almost two weeks.
Happy Little Plants
Last week Seppi and Winnie and Daddy spent a day in the workshop because it was too cold for Winnie outside. We made two woodworking projects. The first was a planter shelf. The seedlings we planted last week have started nicely. At least the cabbages and brussels sprouts have started. The Peppers, according to the… Continue reading Happy Little Plants
Kraut!
We've been meaning to get to this one for weeks, ever since the first frost. We had 6 big cabbages in the garden, and Daddy wanted to make sauerkraut. Unfortunately, that was November. It is now January. One thing and another has conspire to keep us out of the garden for the last two months… Continue reading Kraut!
Garden Update
Here it is, September. The gardening season is about over, because it has been getting cool and rainy again, and now... Now! the garden has decided to wake up and make something of itself.
