Family, Sunday rest

Weekend Stuff.

No farmwork last weekend, or very little. Split and stacked some firewood, but other than that, not much. This was because we had school schedules to write. Believe it or not, homeschooling is not (completely) a make it up as we go along type thing. Typically we make it up at least a week or two in advance.

There is not panic quite like opening the lesson planner on a Monday morning and finding it blank! (The kids seem not to be phased by this. When it occurs they naturally assume that it must be a vacation of some kind.)

Ellie Belle earned herself some dollars by cleaning up all the “pokies” on our back yard. (These are un-pollinated chestnut burrs, because there is not a pollinator tree, so they do not form edible nuts. They are good for nothing except stabbing people in the feet when they walk about barefoot).

Then on Saturday night we had Lord’s Day hosted by Uncle at the farm.

Uncle braised some beef from our highlanders, with onions and herbs.

Without exaggeration, it was one of the best beef dinners we have ever eaten.

We also had salads from a friend’s garden, as well as corn and mashed potatoes from the farm.

Mommy made a Polish Papal Cream Cake in honor of St. Faustina’s feast, and honey nut cookies in honor of the feast of St. Francis.

Then, after dinner we had pipes and sparklers and all sorts of semi-pagan shenanigans around a bonfire. Good Catholic Fun.

Miss Ellie Belle, up in a tree, after Mass.

Mommy putting the finishing touches on Seppi’s Halloween costume.

Basically, a normal Sunday.
