Tuesday after school we set out for the pasture to mark out the lines where the new fence is going to run.

The first step was removing the netting that has been up since early this summer.

These longer sections of netting are extremely heavy and awkward to move. I will be so happy when we don’t need to use them anymore.

Next we laid out the straight line and measured 12 feet off the east end, and marked out two posts for the fence anchor on the east end. Then we measured the pasture (342 feet long) to find the exact half-way point (171 feet. And Evie said she would never have to use math!)

We centered a space for a 12 foot gate on the exact center point.

And marked off posts for a fence anchor on either side.
Last thing we did while we were out there was to cut down about half the tansy ragwort that is going to seed out there. This was all we could fit in one wagon load, but we got about half of it. It is dumped on a pile of brush to be burned.
Next year we are going to have to keep a weed whacker with the pasture supplies and chop it down as early as we can, before it goes to seed.
