Our Food

Food: Pork Chops, Baby ‘Tatoes, Green Beans and Blackberry Rhubarb Crumble.

People have lots of different reasons for homesteading and homeschooling.

For us, homeschooling was thrust upon us by COVID whether we would or no, it just turned out to be a serendipitous event.

We continue it now because we see the results, compared to other non-homeschooled kids; but even more so, for moments like this.

One of us is home with the kids every day. We can teach them the things we think are important, and we can share hours and hours with with them that we would not be able to if they were spending 40 hours per week away from home.

Ellie tasted the raw rhubarb that was going into the crumble. She was underestimating how tart that was going to be.

She made this crumble without any help (except I had to make some brown sugar, because we ran out). She says she wants to be a cook or a baker when she grows up.

For supper, baby potatoes boiled in salt water, and pan fried home grown pork chops.

Pro-tip: Heat the home canned green beans by frying them in the drippings from the pork.

Ellie is now teaching Seppi how to prepare a salad.

And as for homesteading, that was a natural outgrowth of gardening for us.

Lots of people homestead for lots of reasons. I do it because I just like tasty food, man. You will never have pork chops or baby potatoes like that anywhere else. I guarantee it.
