Saturday was a busy garden day. Daddy and Winnie and Seppi got out there early, prepping last year’s legume row to be ready for winter wheat. Of course, we do not hold with muzzling the ox that treadeth out the grain. In other words, snacks for everyone in the garden.
This is a radish. We have been experimenting with different kinds of radish this year, and there have been so many new ones, like this long, peppery purple variety.

And these are baby turnips.

Winnie loves snacking.

It took about an hour to get the row cleaned up, but it filled a wheelbarrow with greens for our four-footed friends.

About a month later on that I would have liked to get it in, but we did get it all planted.

And soaked it in hard in the early morning when it was gray and cool, not realizing that it was going to get hot and dry in the afternoon and dried out the row. Now worries though, the rains started the next day, so God has been watering them for free.

Mommy and the two older girls went down to Chehalis with some 4-H friends to pick more apples from an orchard down there. The freezers are all full, so this will be kept in the cool dark basement until the 18th.

Kale and a monster purple turnip.

Winnie found the fire pit, which is a fun place to play.
The next order of business was digging the last of the ‘tatoes.

We only had about 12 feet of potato row left, all the rest having been eaten for various suppers already. This yielded about 3 Lbs of baby potatoes and about 20 Lbs of regular potatoes.

As soon as the ‘tatoes were out it was time to put the garlic in.

Evie and Ellie did most of the planting.

When not goofing around.

150 row feet of garlic, planted.

And mulched with pine shavings. This will reduce drying from the sunny days, and runoff on the rainy days.

And then, it was time to rush ’round and get cleaned up and put tools away or “You’ll be late for Sabbath!”
