Man Work Time!

Last Thursday but one (9/12/2025) we went down to Graham to drop off a load of trash, and then to pick up some alfalfa for Iris.

Along the way we ran into a little problem.

We’re screwed!

As soon as we got back to the farm, we moved the old hay to consolidate it and make room for the new hay.

The new bales are about 100LBs each, so we have 1200 Lbs of alfalfa. That will supplement the lower quality hay to keep Iris going until the rains return.

As soon as the hay was unloaded we parked the trailer and removed the flat tire.

We took the tire off and set the trailer to rest on a cedar block. (The opposite side tires are chocked, don’t worry.

It took us a couple days to get the new tire, but we got it back on last Tuesday (the 16th).

Winnie very much enjoyed helping with that.

“This is my ratchet ranch!”

No amount of correction could convince her it was a wrench, not a ranch.

Since we had the thing up on blocks and had the tools out, we overhauled the jack stand as well. The mounting bracket on the tongue of the trailer tends to get bent after resting on the jack for too long, and the jack begins to lean. We pulled the jack off, and bent the mounting bracket back into place.

Then we remounted the jack, this time under the mounting bracket, so that the flanges of the jack itself have more surface area to spread out the weight.

But the biggest change is that we are going to start resting the trailer hitch on block, rather than on the jack when it is not in use. This will preserve the life of the trailer hitch.
