Edmund has another contract. This time for $40,

For one post hole, minimum 42″ deep, big enough to set a railroad tie exactly 16 feet from both corner posts at the gate to the chicken-yard and south pasture.

This is the beginning of the next phase of pasture development, step one of dividing up the chicken run to minimize their impact.

Edmund is a natural digger, but there are some finer points of setting a post he is not aware of. Unfortunately, it is going to be a few weeks before Uncle Ryan can get around to showing him how to set the post. The nuances of digging a post hole are not readily apparent unless you keep the end of the process in mind. Still, it’s pretty awesome that a 9-year-old can dig a hole 3 1/2 feet deep by himself with grown-up size hand tools.
