All the trees here are 2-3 year saplings, still building their basic structure. Pruning is important, but pretty straightforward.

Oh, and taking out the wild cherry saplings. Those things are weeds.

Too thick for Ellie Belle. She got about halfway through it but couldn’t make it all the way through so Daddy had to finish it.

Taking this little pear down to a whip, and pruning the top to an outward facing bud to stimulate the central leader to grow this year.

This apricot grew like crazy this year. It is already at height for the first layer of branches so we just pruned the trunk and left the upper branches. But in doing that we noticed the tree was a bit wobbly. Looking closely at the base we found this.

That doesn’t look right but I am not sure what that is. I have sent an email to the local extension office to see if they know.

None of the other trees had this issue.
