Our Workshop

Three Hearts Poster

We recently came across this beautiful print of a pen-and-ink drawing of the three hearts, sold by a family owned company in Steubenville, OH.

Thinking it would make a beautiful fixture in our workshop, we ordered it, and I successfully turned a 10 minute project into a several day project, framing and mounting it.

First I had to find and measure and cut a piece of scrap 1/8 inch plywood for the backing, and then 4 pieces of scrap ceiling trim molding for the edges.

A really good woodworker would have hand-planed his own molding with his own custom-built molding plane that he inherited from his forefathers, but I made do with what I had. A competent woodworker would have clamped and glued all four edges at once, but I only have four clamps right now. This is what turned it into a multi-day project. I clamped the first piece during my workout one morning.

A couple days later came back and glued and clamped two more sides.

Finally, Monday morning came back and glued and clamped the final side.

Yesterday I took it off the table. For being made out of scrap wood, it doesn’t look half bad. Now I just have to figure out where I want to hang it.
