Our Garden

Clearing the legumes

Didn’t get much time at the farm yesterday, spent about an hour in the afternoon, getting a new paddock set up for the cows and the sheep in the Orchard, and prepping the legume to be planted to wheat, hopefully today.

Math. Still needs to get done.

One of the things we needed to set up, the paddock was a T-post to rest the fence charger on.

We decided to borrow one from the old pig shelter.

Sometimes you have to make a choice

Between getting something done quickly, yourself…

And doing it with the kids…

Enjoying the entertainment of watching them, pit their brains and muscles against a task far too large for them.

Of course, when they got tired of working at it, it took me about two seconds to leverage it out myself, and we probably could’ve gotten 10 minutes worth of jobs done if I had just done that to start with, but sometimes I have to force myself to remember what is most important, or to put it differently, what the farm is for.

We pulled out the remainder of the beans, taking care to clear as many of the actual bean pods and seeds as we could find, so they don’t grow up amongst the wheat. We also pulled out the nasturtium, saving as many of their corms as we could.

Hopefully, today we can get wheat seeds in the ground, and put several loads of muck on the straw bales, preparatory to putting potatoes, tomatoes, and squash in there next year.
