It’s been a while since we’ve updated on the Turkeys. We originally had 7 which arrived at the beginning of June, living in our large brooder for a couple of months. One escaped the coop and hopped the fence, flying off to be a free turkey like his ancestors, but the other six are still with us. After we butchered the meat birds we moved the turkey birds to the chicken tractor and have been rotating them around the pasture ever since. They eat a good bit of grass, more than the chickens, but they are still an ugly, skinny looking bunch.

The turkeys are really Edmund’s market project. He has them all disposed of already, we are just fattening them up for Thanksgiving. We decided to go with small heritage breeds rather than modern meat breeds to avoid the conundrum of what to do with a 40Lb turkey.
