Our Cows, Our Sheep

What the farm is for

The acoustics on the farm are kind of funny. Sometimes you can be on the other side of the yard and yell at the top of your lungs and the kids won’t hear you at all. Othertimes you can be halfway down the field and you can hear the baby laughing or crying from the house or the barn.

The other day I was in the garden planting beets and carrots and I heard a happy little voice coming from the barn saying, “Hi, tows! Hi, tows!” (i.e. “Hi, cows!”

Since she has been known to try to climb over the fence into the pen, I went in the barn to check it out. There was a baby girl, just visiting her cows (from the correct side of the fence. So I cut her some willow branches and we spend a quiet 10 minutes feeding the stock some healthy treats.

She didn’t believe me that the sheep find it easier to eat the willow when she is not waving it wildly around in the air over their heads.

Happy times.
