Let’s check on the garden, shall we?

It has become time to plant our winter brassicas. We have a row dedicated to broccoli, cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts and rutabagas that we hope to harvest all winter long. However, it is also the row in which all of our volunteer potatoes came up.

Obviously, that means it is time to lift those potatoes.

The kids thought this was great fun. Daddy lifted them with the spading fork, and the kids dived on them like vultures, racing to see who could fill their box first.

This is a good job for Winnie, because she is close to the ground already.

But attention span won in the end. Ellie was able to focus on the job through the whole job. It’s amazing what an edge that gives you over people less than half your age.

Uncle stopped by to find a strange bug and show it to everyone. (He was otherwise busy, setting up the next round of paddocks in the north pasture).

A bee in the borage (Evie took this picture).

We got a good bin of taters, but we also poked a hole in the water line.

Not to worry. I can splice it later on, I think I have the stuff to do it in the car port. If not, I will get it later on this week.
After lifting the potatoes we planted winter cabbage and broccoli, brussel sprouts, kale and rutabagas.

Now to see if any of them grow.

Yukons and russets. Hopefully we can find the time to can them up, but most likely not in the next few weeks. They are going to be pretty busy.
