Our Ducks

A Bucket of Ducks

Our ducklings were getting too big for their brooder, and spilling their water everywhere, and making an infernal mess. So we put them in a bucket and moved them out to the orchard.

That’s right, a bucket full of ducks.

We aren’t completely sure yet, but it looks like our “random” run of leftover heritage breeds was mostly male. Meaning, in the ten birds it looks like their might be one hen. So looks like we will be putting some duck in the freezer come Christmas.

Or maybe we will cook a couple up fresh for Lord’s day dinner. Hopefully the hen is an Ancona. It would be splendid if we had an Ancona pair, then we could have pretty feather-cows, and raise more ducklings, for eggs as well as meat.
