Water Catchment System, Damage Report

Well, the water collection system survived its first rain storm…

Mostly.

We got a little over an inch of rain from Friday morning to Sunday night. The gutter downspout simply didn’t work, it just ran out the fitting around the pipe. So Uncle Adam took the top off the manway on the tank and jammed a length of PVC into the Tee fitting and left it at that.

Not a sustainable solution, but it worked for now. We can’t leave the manway open all summer, that would provide a breeding ground for mosquitos.

The more serious issue is that the left first-flow diverter slipped out of the collar so none of the rain that fell on the south side of the roof ended up in the tank.

We’ll glue that back in, and we’ll figure out a way to make the downspout work.
