Beautiful weather last Monday. We took the opportunity to clean out the worm bin. The worms have been chilling, most of the winter. They are not as active during cold weather and the eat and poop less. We continue to feed them, of course (mostly egg shells, coffee grounds, tea leaves and banana peels, most everything else goes to the pigs), and the bin does not overflow, but we don’t have to supplement with paper shreds as often.

With the weather so nice at the beginning of last week, we took the opportunity to clean out the worm bin, screen out the castings, and put the remaining compost/worm mixture into the empty bin, layering it with paper shreds to provide more bulk/carbon.

10 or 11 gallons of castings. Not a bad haul. Now, to take it all to the farm and put it on the garden that is slowly taking shape over there!
