Yesterday was a beautiful and glorious afternoon, so after Daddy got home from work, he gathered up the three oldest kids and took them to the farm to run in the sun and frolic in the field. The project we were planning on was removing the last remnants of the old center fence at the back of the pasture. This will make a lane so that after the pasture fence is completed we can drive a pickup truck down the land and then left and right along the east end of the field.
Originally we were planning on breaking the concrete around the railroad ties and extracting them whole, but then we saw how deep the concrete went, and looked at how much time we had. In the end, we decided simply to dig down and cut them off with a chainsaw just above the concrete.

So that’s what we did.

The kids then enjoyed jumping off the fallen railroad ties onto the stumps in the bottoms of the holes.

We put the upper portions of the railroad ties in the bed of the truck and stowed them in the car port with the rest of the fencing supplies, along with the role of horse fence.

Last thing, after picking up all our tools, was to fill in the holes. We will probably end up adding some fill dirt at some point.

And now we have a continuous lane along the east end of the farm, which is where the food hedge will soon be planted.

Last task of the day: raising our new flag on our new flagpole.
