By an unusual and not altogether pleasant turn of events (Mommy got sick and had to stay home from work) we got two extra family days this week. Daddy and Seppi and Ellie took a few hours in the afternoon to get some plumbing done.

First, of course, a trip to the hardware store to get the stuff that we think we need.

There is a lot of ground to cover…

Then we cleaned out the trench a little bit to even the grade and remove the river rocks. It was all for nothing, of course, the previous owner had buried a water line under that area, covered it with river rock and covered that with landscape cloth. There was no way to get that hump lower or to get the rocks completely removed, so for that section we opted to run the pex pipe through 1 1/4 PVC conduit to protect it from the rocks.

One hydrant in place. Now the kids can bury this leg of the pipe, leaving the joints visible so we can see if there are any leaks once we pressurize the line.

Next step was to cut through the pipe that we are drawing our supply from. As we suspected, it was 3/4 inch poly pipe.

As always, something didn’t go as planned. The T-connector was the wrong size for the poly pipe. So after another trip to the store to buy the stuff that we actually needed…

The new T-connector partially installed.

From there to a riser, and from the riser to an elbow, then a shut-off valve.

Then into the conduit and out to the pasture. We did not have time to test it because the weather turned windy and the tenp dropped down to the low 30’s with hail. The kids were pretty much over it, and it was supper time, so we headed home.
Always something left for another day.
