After our experience with the buckwheat, we realized we don’t have weed control in the north field, so it would be a waste of money to plant wheat there this fall. The weeds would just take over.
However, we realized that we were taking the tomatoes and squash out of the straw bales, and one of the things that grows well in the straw bales are wheat and oat stalks from leftover seeds. So we decided to seed one row of wheat into the straw bales after we pulled the squash and tomatoes out.
That was two weeks ago, and so far it’s looking pretty good if a little bit uneven.

It is an experiment like all of our gardening, so we will see how it does next year.
