Yesterday was a busy day, we were racing to get the buckwheat harvested and under cover before the rain. We got it off the ground, but only by chopping it up with the lawnmower, and bagging it, and then dumping it on a tarp in the shop. Threshing by hand is just too slow,

An added problem with this method is that the buckwheat seed is now mixed in with a large pile of damp chaff and bits of stalk that will cause it to mold in short order if we don’t get it winnowed.

So today’s project is building a contraption that will allow us to coarse-sift and winnow the buck wheat grain.

As you can see, I had lots of help.

Many hands make light work, unless those hands are tiny, and then I’m not so sure about that.

But, there it is.
In our next episode, maybe will get to see if it works.
