Busy day, yesterday. Daddy, Seppi and Papa hooked up the trailer to Papa’s big truck and drove south to Adna. We bought some straw bales from the same lady we bought them from last year.

Don’t go without Seppi!
Of course, nothing ever goes quite smoothly. The jack on the trailer was broken so we had to use a combination of blocks and the floor jack to get the trailer up on the hitch.

The trip down was uneventful, and the straw bales were stacked and ready. 85 in the trailer, 5 bales in the back of the truck.

Hot, hard work, but we got it done.

Then unloading when we got back. Seppi does his best, even though the bales weigh as much as he does.

We stacked them in the car port for now, come fall we will put them on the garden.

It may seem odd to spend a full day and hours of driving, not to mention the money, for a bunch of straw that is essentially going to be compost, but the price of bales close to Tacoma is so expensive, it actually saves several hundred dollars doing it this way. And we have had good crops of both tomatoes and squash out of straw bales. God willing, next year we will have even better crops if we get time to trellis and prune them properly.
